BIO
VANCE MARINO is an experienced teacher as well as a seasoned singer, guitarist, bassist, ukukele player, songwriter and composer who began his professional music career at the age of 16. He started teaching guitar and bass at the former Tradway's in Ramona, in 1998 began teaching at Ozzie's Music, and now teaches at Nick Rail Music in Poway.
A native Hawaiian, Vance learned how to play guitar when he was 10 and became proficient on many different instruments while attending Kamehameha Schools and the University of Hawaii's Leeward College. By the age of 16, he was playing and singing in many country, rock, and blues bands in Hawaii, Arizona, and California.
Vance became fascinated with recording when he was in junior high school and now composes and produces music for film & TV along with his wife, Tracey Marino. The band performed at the (Del Mar) San Diego County Fair, Balboa Park annual "Battle Of The Bands," and many other local venues. From 1998 to 2009, Vance played classical guitar for the weekly Saturday afternoon high-tea hour at the famed Rancho Bernardo Inn & Resort.
Since 2009, Vance and Tracey have been judges for the annual "Musicpalooza" contests at the San Diego County Fair in Del Mar each summer. For more information, click HERE.
Vance teaches: how to play lead guitar; different strumming techniques; note reading and how to play "by ear"; how to play from tablature (tab), lead sheets, chord charts; tips on how to play in a band or musical group. He also loves teaching songwriting. Many of Vance's students have gone on to music colleges such as Berklee School of Music and have become professional musicians and teachers as well.
